It is very rare when I get to be home on a rainy day; being at work on those kind of days is not ideal. I would rather be home, in my bed, wrapped in my quilt. Rainy and snow days are the only kind of days when I like my bedroom window open, so I can watch the show—especially if it’s a thunderstorm.
Rainy days, to me at least, are stay-in movie days: I want a handful of movies to watch, a couple of snacks, and a whole lot of nothing to do. Sometimes they involve surrounding myself with family, sometimes friends, or sometimes alone.
During my perfect, rainy afternoon, I would watch rom-coms like Bridesmaids and Big Daddy, or classics like Singin’ in the Rain and The Sound of Music. I would take a break from my television screen to have a grilled cheese paired with tomato soup to keep me content with the great stay-at-home day I’m having. Lady and Luna would probably follow me around, just as they would any other day, but I don’t really mind it. I would check outside from the back patio, and maybe even go outside for a couple minutes to breathe in the fresh, saturated air.
I’d take a couple pictures, watch my dogs running around. Maybe step in a puddle or two.
And my peaceful, heavenly day would end with falling asleep early—something that never, ever happens. And I would hope it’s a Friday or Saturday, so I didn’t have to get up early to go to work the next day.
Prompt: Safe inside, toasty warm, while water pitter-patters on the roof…describe your perfect, rainy afternoon.
