So I had this idea of something I used to do often when I was a small child. When my mom finished her maternal leave with me, and had to go back to work, I would usually spend my days at Oma’s house.

This information I’ve known for a long time. I remember random flashes of watching I Dream of Jeannie, Happy Days, and I Love Lucy with Oma. I remember getting my chocolate milk and watching The Big Comfy Couch before I’d fall asleep for my naptime.

I also specifically remember going upstairs to what was Aunt Roxanne’s bedroom at the time, and watching Toy Story every single morning.

You see, I just thought that I would actually request to watch this movie every morning. Aunt Roxanne would be sleeping, and I would wake her up, she’d put it on for me, and then I’d hop on her bed and watch it.

I remember, or at least I have this picture in my head, after I’d wake her up, she’d just ask, “Want to watch Toy Story?”

And I’d nod, and jump up onto her waterbed, placing myself in the same spot, every day.

Well, it just so turns out that I was wrong.

Just the other day, she was telling me how she used to only work nights when I was a really little kid. She’d work from 4pm – 12pm, then she’d go out with her friends until around 5am, then go to bed, and sleep in until whenever, because she didn’t have to be in work the next day until later on.

This information I did not know.

So she asked, “don’t you remember watching Toy Story every morning?” And of course I did. She continued with something along the lines of, “Well that’s because you’d come to my room to play, and I just wanted to sleep, so I’d put it on for you, and you’d be good for another two hours.”

Can you believe that? Because I, sure as well, was shocked. For like five minutes.

And I laughed so hard.

I never knew why I watched that movie so often, I just thought that it was because I loved it. But it turned out to just be my childhood distraction from keeping my godmother awake. This makes me wonder what other memories I have or stories I’ve been told have extra details that I don’t know anything about.

(I also wonder if that explains why I like Tom Hanks’ and Tim Allen’s voices so much?)
