Light My Candle

When it rains, I like to set my room up. I keep my lights off, open my windows, set any candles I have ablaze, and have a relaxing day. Usually, that means I have a television marathon; I’ll catch up on my shows, watch some movies, try new shows—whatever I’m in the mood for.

That’s just how it was when I took this photo.

I decided to start watching Stranger Things, since I wanted to know what all the hype was about. The show was all over social media, due to the hype and release of the second season. So I was giving it a try, and by the third episode, I was hooked.

A lot of the time, while I watch my shows, I’ll find myself multitasking. I’ll have the laundry going, play games on my iPad, and usually, eat. That day, I was playing one of my games, and I looked over to the candle, and thought how cool it was that you could only see the flame from behind the wax, instead of on top. The wax was melting in an unusual way, but because I thought it looked so cool, I took a picture.

You would think that the colors behind the words were a sticker or a design on the candle, but it was the wax itself. I just thought the candle looked really cool, how the flame flickered behind the colors. And since my phone has the live photo setting, it looks more interesting that way. Sadly, you can’t see it as a live photo on here.

You’re probably wondering why it says, “Hello gorgeous.” I’m not narcissistic, I swear. My mom bought it for me from the dollar store by my house, because I was out of candles, and couldn’t afford Yankee Candles at the time. So she offered to get me a set of dollar store candles, that actually smelt really nice. They were tropical, and I enjoy fruit-scented candles. Especially lemon.

The other candle that I got with it says Follow Your Dreams, and has different shades of blue. Despite the fact they came from Dollar Tree, I think they’re pretty candles. A little small for my taste, but pretty nonetheless.

And yeah, in case you were wondering, that’s a VCR behind the candle. My dad actually got it for me for Christmas last year—I needed something to watch my Disney movies!

Prompt: What was the last photo you took? Why did you take it?

A twenty-two year old who lives through words and her Netflix account. She makes herself laugh more than others, and she claims that she is okay with that.
