When Morning Comes

The very first thing I do every morning—you know, besides putting my glasses on, because hello, I’m blind—is let my dogs out of the house.

Honestly, I feel like almost all dog owners would say the same: we take care of our dogs before taking care of ourselves. They’re like our children; they can’t let themselves out, so that’s our job. And trust me, I don’t mind that part of the job; it just means that I can resume the rest of my morning routine in peace.

I’m about that kind of life.

My dogs—especially Luna—become insane when morning comes around. It’s almost like that second opening scene in Frozen, when we first meet Anna and Elsa, and Anna tells her sister, “the sky’s awake, so I’m awake, so we have to play!” That is basically Luna in a nutshell.

As for my little ol’ Lady Jane, the lazier one of my babies, she gets this little pep in her step when Luna comes to my room in the morning. She’s not running around and whining and licking my face to get my attention…but the second she sees me getting out of bed, she starts making moves, too.

And as for me, I’m not as chipper in the mornings. I’m more similar to an owl than a robin, so if you think that I’m up for conversation any time before 10:0am, you would be very wrong. So imagine being the person/animal to wake me up. (Spoiler: it’s not a pleasant interaction)

But I can’t lie: I can’t stay mad at my dogs for too long. They are my children, after all…and the fact that they’re just really cute helps, in their favor.

Prompt: What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Why?

  1. It’s the first thing I do in the morning too! We have two Pomeranians and one is jumping at the bed to go pee! The other is more chill, but excited when I get up! Good read!
