Believe it or not, I’ve actually spoken to people about facial hair more often than you would think. And because I’m nosy and ask a lot of questions, I’m usually the one that brings it up. I don’t know how many times that I’ve asked questions like “What’s your opinion on beards?” or “Do you like facial hair on guys or not?”
I don’t know why I’m such an obnoxiously curious person, so don’t ask.
I’m actually surprised by how many females around me tell me that they’re not into it. Like, at all—especially since so many guys themselves are interested in having facial hair. I don’t know how else to put it, ladies, but beards are trending.
Personally, as long as y’all are grooming and taking care of your facial hair, I think beards are cool. They add character, they keep faces warm (Hello, No Shave November!), and you know what? A lot of guys can really work the beard look.
But not those Duck Dynasty guys. They need to do something about their faces.
Speaking of which, not all guys can really pull off a beard. For instance, my dad looks like a wannabe rock star with the goatee he’s tried to grow out a couple of times throughout my life. I think it’s because it grows out in patches, instead of all at once, and that awkward stage just doesn’t look right to me. Also, I’m used to a smooth-faced father, so that could explain it, too.
Oh! And mustaches. I get that some guys are trying to either bring that look back or look like Freddie Mercury, or Tom Selleck, or whoever else had a popular ‘stache, but guys. Mustaches are just plain creepy. And, I’m sorry to tell you this, but you are not Freddie Mercury, or Tom Selleck. Maybe one day I can be swayed on the creepy idea of mustaches if I ever meet someone that can work that type of look, but besides the two ’80s icons, I’ve yet to see one.
Also—mutton chops? YIKES.
But besides plain ol’ mustaches and scary-looking mutton chops, I’m all for the idea of facial hair. Be creative, keep your face warm, work it. Just make sure you take care of it, because they are pretty cool. They can make you guys look more sophisticated or rugged, and just the fact that the small change to your face does that for your whole look is pretty damn awesome, if you ask me.
So long as you can accept women and the ways we want to express ourselves, I think we can return the favor.
Prompt: Do you like or have facial hair?
