Whenever I’ve thought of having any supernatural powers, I’ve always thought that it would be coolest to be a witch; I felt like superheroes have way too much weight on their shoulders, and I mean, superheroes are usually limited to only having one cool power. Witches could do whatever the hell they wanted—that’s where it was at for me.
But that’s not what this post is about. We’re talking about superhero powers, so I can only have one. Do you know how hard it is for me to choose? This is probably why actual superheroes are either born with their powers, or get them by chance. Because making people choose for themselves would take way too long.
You know, unless they say something on a whim, like, “Ugh, I wish I had superhuman strength!” But let’s be real here, I’ve got the time to sit and think about this.
I feel like if I could speak and understand any language, that’d be pretty damn awesome. Could you imagine never having to deal with the frustration that comes with language boundaries? You would be able to go anywhere you wanted to, without the fear of not being able to understand anyone. That would be so beneficial.
You know what’s also beneficial? Time travel. If I had the ability to travel through time, I feel like I would constantly do so. I’m really into that kind of thing; although I do wonder if I could to go back in time, would that throw off the sequence of events? Would everything really change, or would it all find a way to put the world back on track?
So many questions, so little time.
I feel like if I had the ability to make any two people agree with each other, the world would be a more peaceful place…but it wouldn’t be as fun as my other two options. It would become more of a job than anything, so I definitely would nix this one out of the running.
If I seriously had to choose one superpower, I would probably choose the ability to speak and understand any language. It would probably get me the least into trouble, and it would actually be something that I could enjoy. And then I could also go absolutely anywhere in the world that I’d like to be. Yeah, that’d be super.
Prompt: You get to choose one superpower. Pick one of these, and explain your choice: the ability to speak and understand any language, the ability to travel through time, or the ability to make any two people agree with each other.
