When Nobody Else Is Around

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of music; I think it’s a normal, healthy thing to be. I listen to music almost constantly throughout my work days, when I get ready every morning, and at random times throughout my days. Basically, the only times I’m not listening to music are when I’m writing, watching TV, or sleeping. That’s about it.

I’ve mentioned it before that I like to throw little concerts when no one is around. Sometimes, I lock my bedroom door, and jam out with my headphones on. I’ll make a playlist and have a concert in my shower. And after everyone’s gone to sleep, I’ll even use the bathroom mirror as my audience, and start lip syncing.

Okay, I guess some would think that I might have a problem.

Even when I’m not listening to the music on my phone or the radio, it’s still playing up in my head. Personally, I don’t think that’s weird; I feel like most people have that going on for them. Well, when I have a song stuck in my head, I use one of two solutions that usually help me:

  1. I listen to it, or
  2. I sing it on my own.

And I know that for a lot of people, those things don’t help. For some, what usually helps is focusing or listening to something else. But for me, I need to get it out of my system by dealing with it, embracing it.

So I figured that I would share a list of the songs that most often get stuck in my head. Because, for people like me, I get the same songs stuck in my head all the time. It doesn’t matter when was the last time I actually heard the song. I haven’t actually listened to Mambo #5 in years, and yet, that one song pops up in my noggin every now and then.

Isn’t it just so weird how that happens: you haven’t listened to a song in a really long time, and then it just hits you like a ton of bricks? Or even worse, when it’s a really soft version of the song, and you can’t put your finger on what song it is, who’s singing it, or where the hell it came from? Maybe it’s just me, I don’t know.

I originally started writing this list down a couple of days ago, and ended up with almost one hundred songs…and then I realized how ridiculous it was, and shortened it down to sixty. It’s still a lot, I know, but I felt weird about getting rid of any of the songs I kept. I don’t know if it was because I felt rude to the artists, or because I just really like these songs. Either way, I should probably just put together a playlist, so I didn’t have to worry about finding the songs.

So here you go (I sorted them into alphabetical order—I wasn’t really sure how to go about sorting them, so I went for the most basic form possible):
